I started this blog to share our adventures (and misadventures) with others interested in family-friendly destinations and travel tips. Subsequently, I’ve learned the importance of having the right tech gadgets for capturing and sharing our most memorable experiences.

This guide is useful for anyone who wants to document or write about their travels. It’s also good for those psyched about tech gadgets. So be sure to share this with your family, friends, and your followers on social media. This guide will also come in handy when shopping for great travel gifts for that gallivanter in your life.

So, without further ado, here is a list of my all-time favorite tech gadgets for travel. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

1. A Quality Camera

I am personally not going to buy the most expensive equipment possible. I am, however, seeking quality for a fair price. To keep within budget, I bought a used camera and rented lenses. Renting lenses from BorrowLenses allowed me to experiment until I found a lens that I liked.

Ultimately, I bought a mirrorless Fujifilm x-T10 because its lightweight and pretty compact. It’s easy to travel with and subtle compared to my choice of clothing considering I wear it around my neck. Also, the vintage look of this camera is just a nice perk for me. The aesthetic is simple yet unique compared to the modern cameras I see everywhere.

I have recently noticed that Canon is a very popular camera among travelers as well. So, I suggest doing some thorough research before you decide to commit financially to a certain camera.

Regardless of which digital camera you decide to buy, make sure you’re comfortable with it.

2. External Hard Drive

You’ll need a ton of storage for pictures and videos. I’m recommending this because I’ve experienced first hand exactly how much storage media consumes.

To combat this, an external hard drive is exactly where you should seek help. This device will allow you to snap and save without slowing down your laptop or consuming storage on your phone.

3. Portable Charger

Extend your battery life, take more pictures, and record more videos all thanks to this amazing power-packed battery pack.

Unfortunately, digital cameras and cell phone batteries just aren’t very reliable. Running out of battery in the middle of the day is a horrible feeling during a vacation.

As a traveler, the best thing you can do is overprepare and have two portable chargers, just in case. I recommend the RAVPower 2 in 1 wall charger/power bank that will be stationed in your backpack so that you’re not stuck somewhere awesome, out of juice and no way to capture the moment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

4. Extra Camera Battery

I always travel with 2 additional fully charged replacment camera batteries and a travel charger for them. I know a guy who travels with 5 extras. Whether it’s 2 or 10 batteries, check your itinerary and do whatever you need to make sure your camera is ready to go until you are able to get back to an electrical outlet. ⠀⠀

5. Laptop

You need a place to store, edit and share your content. Choose something that is lightweight and travels well. To be frank, I am not a laptop expert. I have been using the same laptop for the last three years. If you’re in the market for a new laptop, I suggest going into an electronics store and speaking to a salesperson. Let them know what level of editing and storing you plan on doing. They will guide you to something that suits your needs.

I prefer a Macbook, for the inclusive software, sleek design, and the ease of syncing my iPhone with my laptop. This syncing can also be accomplished with Samsung devices and you can use Apps if you’d like to have a variety of devices.

A Travel tripod is an absolute must because sometimes you don’t want to place your valuables in the hands of a stranger, you don’t trust another person to get the shot you’ve envisioned, or you want stability and focus that hands generally can’t provide.

There are a plethora of reasonably priced compact, expandable tripods on the market, but I personally love the Manfrotto Befree Live Video Tripod Kit. It has a fluid head and a 3-stage legs system. It features a -90º to +65º tilt range, complete 360º panning, and a bubble level. This tripod kit is under 5 lbs, has a load capacity of 8 lbs, and is ideal for traveling and vlogging.

A Smart Electronics Organizer Travel Case to store all of your wires, batteries and other small electronics. Dot & Dot travel cases are durable, and water repellent travel accessory organizer. They can store most small electronics and have mesh pockets for external batteries and phone. There is also an area to put SD cards. These cases are a must-have for frequent travelers. It keeps everything in place, organized, and prevents tangling of cords.
